We have covered a few North American hot cars, but we haven’t covered a North American built supercar. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Ford GT. We say North American built because the car was designed in the U.S., but built in Ontario, Canada.
That performance does come at a cost, though. Apparently, the EPA has officially rated this as the least fuel-efficient wagon for sale in the US at 14 mpg. Let’s not forget that this car also runs the quarter mile in about 12 seconds, so is fuel economy really going to be our concern here? I didn’t think so.
This is it, y’all, one of the most iconic hot hatches in history. The GTI is no stranger to fame and success, and Volkswagen wanted to see if they could push the envelope even further. While most hot hatches utilize turbocharged 4-cylinders, the R32 has something special up its sleeve.
Being a bus driver may not sound that cool, but this job is not as easy to come by as some may think. See, training and certification requirements for being a bus driver are quite extensive. After all, you’d be responsible for a large number of passengers.
The CRX is already a good-looking car, and by all accounts, a truly iconic hatchback. That said, you can make it look even better with just a few minor additions. Since it’s a Honda, it also handles engine swaps very well, so you may find yourself looking at GSR Integra engines while you’re at it.
The Honda Civic Type R is hands-down one of the most exciting hot hatches on the market. As such, it was always in contention for one of the best hatchbacks 2019 will bring our way. The tenth-generation Honda Civic debuted for MY 2016 with hatchbacks following a year later. The coveted Type R arrived later still, but at least it’s not going anywhere, and the Japanese automaker won’t be fixing what ain’t broken anytime soon.
How can you build a list of hot cars without a Ferrari? You can’t. Some may scoff at the Ferrari 488 J50 as old hat; they would be fools. Granted, it is three model years old now, but styling like this never goes out of vogue. On top of amazing lines that pay homage to the cars built over the 50 years Ferrari has been in Japan (hence the J50 moniker), the 488 J50 is all about blinding speed.
Most of the compact Kia Forte’s sales come from the sedan, but the favorite American body style isn’t all that the Forte has to offer. The Forte5 hatchback is also a major part of the lineup with the price tag $1,500 higher than that of the sedan.
