Who knows, maybe if this new sales move works for them, they could justify sticking a turbo on the V6 model and we might finally see a comeback from the Grand National trim. The recently redesigned Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback keeps things nice and simple.
This had a heavy impact on the brand as a whole, hence they decided to pull a somewhat unorthodox move. The new Buick Regal that goes under the Sportback moniker is now a hatchback. The Euro-styled intermediate will also be available as the TourX wagon, while the good old sedan remains a Chinese market exclusive.
The Ford Mustang Boss 429 is one of the rarest of the hot cars on our list. In fact, it is one of the rarest muscle cars ever built. There were only 1358 built in 1969 and 1970. The Boss 429 was built for racing at a time when Ford was getting its ass handed to it in NACAR’s Sprint Cup Series by the 426 Hemi-powered Chrysler cars. At the time, NASCAR rules required that an engine used in the Sprint Cup Series had to be fitted to at least 500 cars sold to the general public; thus, the Mustang Boss 429 was born!
The Plymouth Road Runner made no pretense about being a family sedan with an upgrade package. It was built for balls out speed and delivered in spectacular fashion with the 426 Hemi engine installed.
It’s available in two trims, each with its own focuses and perks. The conventional Elantra GT comes with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine delivering 161 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The Hyundai Elantra GT Sport, on the other hand, sports a 1.6L turbo four mill capable of producing 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Both are standard with a 6-speed manual, but offer an optional automatic as well. The former can be ordered with a 6-speed unit while the latter comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch.
Studebaker only built the Avanti for two years and sales totaled less than 6,000 units, but the car is amazing. The lines are unique and the interior is head-and-shoulders above any other car of the period. Studebaker had to build the body from fiberglass because trying to build such a unique car from steel would have been a daunting task. Power comes from 289 cu.in. V8 borrowed from the Studebaker Hawk lineup. Output topped out at just 240 hp; but, like the ’53 Vette, power is not the Avanti’s main reason for being on our list of hot cars.
Okay, we all know the LS is the king of used engines, but it’s an unspoken rule that if you mention engine swaps you have to mention the LS so let’s get it over with. Now the stuff of internet memery, the LS swap began as the most economical way to get a light and reliable V8 into a small space.
The Canadian gearheads over at Pistonhead Productions stuffed a 4BT into a 1990 Miata and backed it with a Ford T19 transmission and Ford 8.8-inch rear end. If you race SCCA and you haven’t vomited yet, good on you, because this Miata raised over $10,000 for a local high school’s shop class when it was auctioned in 2016. See, even the baby Cummins used engines can go to good use.
What would you do with a couple used engines from the local junkyard? Take them down to the shop and make something crazy? Some people have the balls to do it, and a few even have the time, money, and resources. And unless you have the dime to spend on a crate motor, building used engines is the way to go. But which ones can you actually count on?
One thing that is consistent is the 2.0L V8 engine. On top of having an incredibly small displacement for a V8, the engine features four chain-driven camshafts, a SPICA fuel injection system, 16 spark plugs, and has a rev-limit of 10,000 rpm. The unique powerplant produces 230 hp in the road ready editions and 270 hp in race units. Leave it to Alfa Romeo to find an interesting way to deliver power to the ground.
Hot cars are about so much more than transportation. They are rolling pieces of art that encapsulate everything that a gearhead could ever want in a ride. There is no simple way to define hot cars. Some are fast as hell, others are low powered classics, and there are a few that combine artistic nuance and balls out speed. Hot cars shamelessly prove that flamboyance and swagger are much more important than practicality or efficiency.
It is difficult to calculate what an average taxi driver can earn annually. Yes, those in larger metropolitan areas definitely have a lot more work, but even in their case, it is reported that top salaries generally don’t reach much more than $40,000. In less developed areas, Taxi drivers can expect to earn up to $24,000. However, many argue that Taxi drivers do not report all of the tips they receive.
As per BLS research, the median annual wage of school bus drivers is $28,330. It is not that much, is it? However, these drivers work part-time and only when the school is actually in session. If you want to land this driving job, you simply have to be good with kids. This is, logically, really important. As for other requirements, you have to own a valid driver’s license and have First Aid and CPR training (not in all states). Obviously, a clean driving record and driving at the speed limit is common sense here and patience. A LOT of it. After all, you would deal with kids here you know, those little monsters.
