These cars are not your average fuel-sipping sedans and reliable Hondas, though. What we’re looking for here is a list of cars that have unique characteristics, or are far cheaper than people expect them to be, or even surprisingly cheap for what they are. Expect to find ravenous V8s, surprisingly bulletproof off-roaders, and some serious sleepers that will smoke a whole host of cars off the line.
For the sake of clarity, our list of hot cars encompasses everything…recently built supercars, classics, and; because it is a genre that many of our fellow gearheads are passionate about, we will include several classic muscle cars. Really, it covers anything that might capture your imagination and make you dream about hot cars, fast women, and places where you can enjoy both.
Note, we said ”rated.” Actual testing has shown between 500 and 600 hp coming from unmodified engines. The power along with a top speed of 175 mph on a flat track combined to make the Ford Mustang Boss 429 one helluva production car for any era.
Undeniably, one of the greatest hot cars of all time is the first model year of the Chevrolet Corvette. Granted, power numbers are nothing compared to the modern supercars we have listed so far, but this classic beauty is timeless. Cars with the original paint are easy to spot…they are all Polo White. Power comes from a 235 cu.in. inline-six. The 1953 Corvette features the Blue Flame version of this engine. The Blue Flame designation means that the engine features hydraulic lifters and produces 136 hp.
Porsche has built so many hot cars it is hard to narrow our focus. Even though we have listed the Carrera GT, we had the Porsche 959 and 918 Spyder on our minds too. In the end, we tossed a coin and the Carrera GT won.
That is basically it, and in our experience, there were no more than 48 hours between application and our first drive for both Uber and Lyft, making it a very enticing option if you’re in need of quick work. As it is rather easy to set up your driving job with Uber and Lyft, you probably want to know how much can be earned!?
We have covered a few North American hot cars, but we haven’t covered a North American built supercar. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Ford GT. We say North American built because the car was designed in the U.S., but built in Ontario, Canada.
The 2019 Honda Fit won’t offer any substantial changes, but the small hatch has become much more advanced over the years already. With entry-level models starting from just north of $16,000, the Honda Fit is definitely one of the best buy options currently available.
The 1962-1967 AC Cobra, known as the Shelby Cobra in the states, is an icon among hot cars. If it is true that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, then the original AC Cobra is a very flattered car. Oft imitated, but never equaled.
The 2019 Audi A3 Sportback e-tron won’t bring any substantial changes since the all-new model is likely to arrive in 2020. Regardless, the stylish and luxurious plug-in hybrid should still be one of the best hatchbacks 2019 is bringing our way.
For 1970, the Cuda shed its fastback design and added a few engine options. The top engine was the 426 Hemi. Capable of 425 hp, the Hemi Cuda sucked air through dual Carter AFB four-barrel carbs sitting under a functional Shaker scoop. To handle its power, the ’70 Cuda had extra-heavy-duty front torsion bars with a spring rate of 124 lbs. per inch and a heavy-duty front stabilizer bar. Sitting out back were 148-lbs. per-inch rear leaf springs and extra-heavy-duty shocks. The 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda was built to run full out all day!
Later 240sx models used engines of the KA24DE derivative which had double overhead cams and four valves per cylinder, as opposed to the KA24E’s three-valve SOHC setup. This resulted in higher power, torque, and redline figures. As far as used engines go, either one is a reliable starting point for your next swap.
Of course, the true Cobras are going to be sublime in every way, but the kit cars can come pretty damn close, too. These crazy cheap cars are a good way to get your classic muscle fix, break some necks, and haul ass in a V8 roadster all at the same time. Who wouldn’t want that?
