Just as with the 1953 Corvette, we are being very specific with the GTO. GTO started out as a trim package for the Pontiac Tempest back in 1964 and became a stand alone car for the 1966 model year. Like many muscle car enthusiasts, we think the 1967 Pontiac GTO was the first true muscle car, starting the race for power supremacy between automakers.
That performance does come at a cost, though. Apparently, the EPA has officially rated this as the least fuel-efficient wagon for sale in the US at 14 mpg. Let’s not forget that this car also runs the quarter mile in about 12 seconds, so is fuel economy really going to be our concern here? I didn’t think so.
Have a cool car? In that case, you may consider renting all that free space on it and getting an advertising deal. If you live in a high-commute area, you may actually find some companies that are more than interested in promoting their services or products by placing advertisements on your car. In this case, you would not even need to drive more or less than before. Just stick to your regular driving pattern.
The Volkswagen Golf GTI has always been and continues to be the definition of a hot hatch. Prior to the upcoming debut of the eighth-generation Golf for MY 2020, the iconic compact will put on the Golf 7 moniker one last time. The 2019 Volkswagen Golf will hence arrive unchanged, but all-time-favorite GTI models have already been updated recently.
Despite the Grand National’s fame and success in the 80’s, there is a surprising amount of people who have never heard of this car. Introduced in 1982 to roaring applause and exiting the stage in 1987 to a thunderous standing ovation with the GNX, the Grand National was the pinnacle of performance in the 80’s. We recognize this is kind of a silly thing to say about a Buick, but it’s absolutely true.
These jobs should be easy to get by and employees are not asked to obtain some mad licensing stuff. Have a clean record, reliable vehicle, be at least 18 years of age and have personal auto insurance. It’s also one of the most relaxing jobs out there; when you’re not stuck in the store, expect to be cruising the streets listening to your favorite music in your own private office on wheels.
We have covered a few North American hot cars, but we haven’t covered a North American built supercar. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Ford GT. We say North American built because the car was designed in the U.S., but built in Ontario, Canada.
These crazy cheap cars are some of the most badass wagons on the market, plain and simple. It does 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and features the same 6.2L supercharged V8 (inspired by the C6 ZR1 engine) as its sedan brother. It’s good for 556 hp, 551 lb-ft. of torque, and a shitload of good times, screeching tires, and sideways turns.
These crazy cheap cars come from all walks of life; some will burn serious rubber while others will help you pick up the kids from school in style. Others, still, will tackle gut-wrenching terrain and be reliable for years to come, and may even get great gas mileage to boot. We were very liberal with our definition of crazy cheap as well, so don’t expect all of them to be at a certain price point. They’re cheap for what they are and what they could be compared to, in most cases.
The 2JZ is like the LS of Japanese engines: the mere mention of it calls to mind the sound of a 240sx bouncing furiously off its rev limiter. It’s as easy as changing your shoes to drop a 2JZ into a variety of cars, and because so many Japanese cars used engines from this family, there are literally thousands of them to choose from and they’re all pretty cheap.
There’s nothing wrong with pulling used engines from Ferraris, except the price. With an F136 you get a 4.5-liter 570-horsepower V8 mill that’s won International Engine of the Year eight times, and it’s wildly dependable as long as it’s maintained.
The Lamborghini Veneno is a modified roadster version of the Aventador that is sharply focused on one thing…flat out speed. The car makes no pretense of having any other purpose for those rich enough and brave enough to own one. Lambo went all out, powering the Veneno with a 6.5L V12 capable of 740 hp and lowering its weight to just 3,280 lbs.
To build the 429 engine, Ford took its 385 engine added four-bolt mains, a forged steel crank and connecting rods, tossed on aluminum cylinder heads with ”crescent” combustion chambers, and eliminated the head gaskets. Ford then topped it off with a Holley four barrel carb. The result was an engine rated at 375 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque.
