The thing that makes these rides so special is that they offer performance that new models do at a fraction of the price. While some of these cars could easily still be compared to new models from other segments, they’re still very affordable for what they can do.
The Honda Civic Type R is hands-down one of the most exciting hot hatches on the market. As such, it was always in contention for one of the best hatchbacks 2019 will bring our way. The tenth-generation Honda Civic debuted for MY 2016 with hatchbacks following a year later. The coveted Type R arrived later still, but at least it’s not going anywhere, and the Japanese automaker won’t be fixing what ain’t broken anytime soon.
Today, Buick is looked upon as a grandpa car. Luxury and refined(boring) lines dominate the automakers lineup. Hell, Buick has always been one step away from being a Cadillac, so the world was a bit surprised when the company started building the Skylark-based GS line. In the GS line, the best offering has to be the GSX Stage 1.
Full torque is available at 3,500 rpm. Nissan has not released the figures for projected top speed, etc for the latest model. If the 2.9 second 0 to 60 mph and Nurburgring Nordschleife lap of only 7:08 minutes produced by the 2015 edition are any indication, the newest NISMO should kick the hell out of several supercars and costs less than $200,000!
The 2011 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport is the car you need. While not as powerful as the Z06 or ZR1 models, it still outpaces the base model at every turn. I’ve heard an owner refer to this car as “the most perfectly balanced corvette for city driving.” -Random Dude in a Restaurant (2017)
Early 2000s Chevrolet and GMC HD trucks are famous for playing the National Anthem out their tailpipes. Often found in a distressed shade of white with dents and rust everywhere, most come with at least $5 of recyclable beer cans in the bed. What you might not know is these workhorses can tow over 10,000 pounds that’s because they all used engines that last forever.
One thing used engines from Subarus were practically made to do is power Volkswagens. Beetles, Westphalias, buses, Transporter trucks, even Synchros can adapt 2.5 Subaru used engines with ease. The original mills had well under half the power of even a stock EJ, and most people report an increase in gas mileage as well. Subaru reliability, classic Volkswagen style, what’s not to love?
Well, that, of course, depends on the number of drives you will make. Regardless, be ready for some “hidden” costs too. As some researchers suggest, ridesharing drivers should calculate in:
What would you do with a couple used engines from the local junkyard? Take them down to the shop and make something crazy? Some people have the balls to do it, and a few even have the time, money, and resources. And unless you have the dime to spend on a crate motor, building used engines is the way to go. But which ones can you actually count on?
Of course, buying a plow is a no-brainer. That could set you back by $3,000 or so. Depending on the deal you made with the district, you could pay that out in a few days. It is hard to precisely assess how much you can earn but some suggest $175 $350 can be made per work hour.
It’s a common misconception that Subaru’s EJ line of engines can be powered solely by vape. The neat thing about Subaru’s used engines is you can find any old 99-09 Forester, Legacy, Impreza, Outback, or even Baja in the USA and under the hood you’ll most likely find an EJ25.
If you are up to it, love to drive, and know how to drive a manual, then look into UPS, FedEx, Amazon, USPS and other. Work really hard and you’ll surpass that $70,000 mark. Sure, delivering packages for a big company is far more lucrative than any other package delivery job. So, while you can deliver pizzas, kebabs or whatever, do not expect to earn a lot.
These crazy cheap cars come from all walks of life; some will burn serious rubber while others will help you pick up the kids from school in style. Others, still, will tackle gut-wrenching terrain and be reliable for years to come, and may even get great gas mileage to boot. We were very liberal with our definition of crazy cheap as well, so don’t expect all of them to be at a certain price point. They’re cheap for what they are and what they could be compared to, in most cases.
