Some enthusiast may point out the Road Runner-based Superbird, as a better car but we are not among them. The styling was too radical and the Hemi powered Road Runner was just a better overall car.
They all received new, larger touchscreen displays and numerous interior updates that make them more advanced than their predecessors. Trims have been shuffled as well and the Golf GTI now comes in the S, SE, and Autobahn grades with each raising the price tag by between $4,000 and $5,000.
In 1967, the Pontiac GTO had a new engine under the hood. The old 389 had been bored out to become a 400. When the new engine was equipped with a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carb(in the high output versions only), it was capable of 360 ponies and 438 lb-ft of torque. The 1967 GTO had an upgraded gearbox as well.
Everyone throws one of these used engines into a drift missile, but that’s been done. We’d rather see a turbocharger and a supercharger piled onto this straight-six to create a 900-horsepower road weapon. In stock form, these yachts used engines from BMW that were prone to failure at over 100,000 miles, since few Rolls Royces have ever seen that kind of use.
We love the Celica. It’s underrated, inexpensive, and reliably built. A vintage example is the perfect pairing for a 22RE. This beauty lives in California, home of rust-free classics parked on every corner. It’s an example of a swap that simply improves on the experience of the original car without losing the spirit of that which came before.
Some engines just aren’t worth it. There’s a reason everyone does an LS swap it’s trusted. Even if you do a total rebuild at great expense, some used engines have inherent weaknesses or parts are hard to come by.
Not only does the Civic Type R perform and look more aggressively than its conventional siblings, but it also sports a number of upgrades you won’t be able to see with your eyes. One such upgrade is a front-strut suspension Honda calls the Dual Axis, which almost completely eliminates torque steer using a carefully mapped engine computer which allows the Type R to run like a charm.
For a defunct automaker, Plymouth sure has made its way onto our hot cars list a surprising number of times. If the company had been able to keep building interesting cars like those produced during the muscle car era, it wouldn’t be defunct. Of the hot cars built by Plymouth, the best ever has to be the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Barracuda.
The Canadian gearheads over at Pistonhead Productions stuffed a 4BT into a 1990 Miata and backed it with a Ford T19 transmission and Ford 8.8-inch rear end. If you race SCCA and you haven’t vomited yet, good on you, because this Miata raised over $10,000 for a local high school’s shop class when it was auctioned in 2016. See, even the baby Cummins used engines can go to good use.
The Japanese manufacturer’s cars are efficient and fun to drive mostly thanks to their revolutionary SkyActiv-G engine technology. Mazda isn’t resting on its laurels, though, and is preparing a whole new generation of SkyActiv-X powerplants. These new engines will be able to use extremely lean fuel mixtures like the homogeneous-charge compression-ignition engines.
The Lyken HyperSport is another diamond-encrusted supercar. Buyers have the choice of either 420 diamonds in the LED blades of the headlights or rubies, yellow diamonds, and sapphires(you know, if plain diamonds are not your thing). The Lyken HyperSport also features a holographic display on the center console with interactive motion features and gold stitching in the seats. These hot cars have two claims to fame…they are one of the most expensive cars ever sold and one was crashed through three skyscrapers in Furious 7.
While driving fine cars wearing white gloves may seem awesome, you would also be responsible for maintaining the fleet of automobiles, running various errands, and keeping all of the registrations and insurance coverage current. A lot of work for sure.
Full torque is available at 3,500 rpm. Nissan has not released the figures for projected top speed, etc for the latest model. If the 2.9 second 0 to 60 mph and Nurburgring Nordschleife lap of only 7:08 minutes produced by the 2015 edition are any indication, the newest NISMO should kick the hell out of several supercars and costs less than $200,000!
