We have covered a few North American hot cars, but we haven’t covered a North American built supercar. The one that comes to mind immediately is the Ford GT. We say North American built because the car was designed in the U.S., but built in Ontario, Canada.
These crazy cheap cars also come with an array of optional luxury equipment such as full leather interiors, a 10-speaker sound system, keyless ignition, and an 8-inch display. It also features four-wheel disc brakes to help this behemoth come to a not-so-screeching halt.
Power comes from a 5.7L V10 capable of 603 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. The Carrera GT has a 0 to 60 mph time of 2.06 seconds and will hit 124 mph in just 9.25 seconds. It will finish the quarter-mile in 10.97 seconds at about 140 mph. The Carrera GT finished the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:28 minutes.
There’s nothing wrong with pulling used engines from Ferraris, except the price. With an F136 you get a 4.5-liter 570-horsepower V8 mill that’s won International Engine of the Year eight times, and it’s wildly dependable as long as it’s maintained.
The 1962-1967 AC Cobra, known as the Shelby Cobra in the states, is an icon among hot cars. If it is true that imitation is the greatest form of flattery, then the original AC Cobra is a very flattered car. Oft imitated, but never equaled.
It’s available in two trims, each with its own focuses and perks. The conventional Elantra GT comes with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine delivering 161 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The Hyundai Elantra GT Sport, on the other hand, sports a 1.6L turbo four mill capable of producing 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. Both are standard with a 6-speed manual, but offer an optional automatic as well. The former can be ordered with a 6-speed unit while the latter comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch.
The Hayabusa is the king of cheap speed it’s the fastest cheapest stock vehicle ever made. That’s not surprising when you consider they used engines with a 1300cc displacement, the size of many small car engines. The difference is your Fiesta doesn’t rev to 13,000 RPM.
Being a bus driver may not sound that cool, but this job is not as easy to come by as some may think. See, training and certification requirements for being a bus driver are quite extensive. After all, you’d be responsible for a large number of passengers.
Have a cool car? In that case, you may consider renting all that free space on it and getting an advertising deal. If you live in a high-commute area, you may actually find some companies that are more than interested in promoting their services or products by placing advertisements on your car. In this case, you would not even need to drive more or less than before. Just stick to your regular driving pattern.
We couldn’t just leave you hanging wondering why Jaguar and Pagani aren’t on our list. Well, there are just a ton of hot cars and only so much paper to write on…or page space here on the internet. Hatchbacks were smaller, much more economical and still more practical than the favorite American body style: the sedan. The same philosophy works today as well, more or less, which is why we’ve gone through the trouble of rounding up the best hatchbacks 2019 is bringing our way, which we’ve also already done for MY 2018.
These RWD monsters are still somewhat pricey due to rarity compared to the sedan and coupe models, but you can expect to find some examples in the ballpark of $45,000. That’s really not bad at all though when you compare this car to the likes of the Porsche Panamera and wagon offerings from Mercedes AMG.
Just as with the 1953 Corvette, we are being very specific with the GTO. GTO started out as a trim package for the Pontiac Tempest back in 1964 and became a stand alone car for the 1966 model year. Like many muscle car enthusiasts, we think the 1967 Pontiac GTO was the first true muscle car, starting the race for power supremacy between automakers.
Today, Buick is looked upon as a grandpa car. Luxury and refined(boring) lines dominate the automakers lineup. Hell, Buick has always been one step away from being a Cadillac, so the world was a bit surprised when the company started building the Skylark-based GS line. In the GS line, the best offering has to be the GSX Stage 1.
The SE and Autobahn models come with 8-inch screens, larger brakes, and an electronically-actuated torque-sensing limited-slip differential. The latter also throws in adaptive dampers and a Fender premium audio system. Regardless of your choice of trim, all Golf GTIs come with the same 220-horsepower 2.0L turbo four mill. The only way to beat that is to opt for the Golf R, which yields 292 ponies and starts perilously close to the $40,000 mark.
